The What, When, & How Series
The Fall series, sponsored by the Educational Research program, is designed around quantitative and qualitative methodological issues in Education that would be of interest to divergent groups. The “What, When, & How Series” can help students in their own research and can help faculty in mentoring students. The meetings are open to all. Reminders will be sent a week prior to the meetings.

Structural Equation Modeling: What, When, and How?

This seminar will introduce basic principles and terminology of structural equation modeling (also called causal modeling) and discuss when and how to apply it in behavioral research.  Dr. Xu will offer a special topic course on structural equation modeling in Spring 2008.

Dissertation Defense of Anita Wells

Anita Wells successfully defended her dissertation on October 29, 2007. Anita took both EDPR 8561, 8562, and attended the "Writing Up Qualitative Research" retreat in July 2007. Grounded in Bandura' Social Cognitive Theory and Lave and Wenger's Communities of Practice, Anita's dissertation was commended for good writing, solid methodology, and critical findings in the area of daily incidental communication as experienced by deaf employees in the workplace.Here is her dissertation presentation.

3rd International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry

The students presented individual papers at this international qualitative methods conference and had opportunities to network with national and international scholars. Their papers were blind peer reviewed and their abstracts were published in the conference proceedings. We will add pictures of the event soon. Faculty Scholarship Week
 Based on the research Dr. Bhattacharya conducted on students' use of wikis in her classes, she was asked to share her results with the University of <placenamew:ston>Memphis community. Here is a poster of the preliminary findings of wikispaces research.

NVivo Training Workshop

On March 7th and 8th, 2007, Dr. Bhattacharya hosted a NVivo Training Workshop for faculty and students of the College of Education at the University of Memphis. Currently, there is no plan to offer this workshop but if there is enough interest, we can consider offering the workshop.
